Chokoloskee & Everglades City Fishing Report 9/30/13

Our fall fishing season is right around the corner as we look forward to some days that are slightly cooler and less humid. Right now our primary targets are Redfish, Spotted Sea Trout, Black Drum, & Snook. The near coastal waters and river areas of the 10000 Islands of the Everglades National Park are now ranging between 82 and 84 degrees. Fleet Captain, Capt Gary had a productive weekend fishing the outgoing tides. Bait was plentiful in the area so Capt Gary threw his cast net and was able to fish whitebait. His crew caught lots of Snook in the 25" range and one which was right around 34". Snook were found on the outer islands, tight to the trees and rootlines on the top of the tide. They also used live shrimp to entice a bunch of Redfish and trout. Reds caught were up to 28" in length and trout were slot sized. These fish were found in the back bays behind the outer islands. Isn't it time you got out and experienced some of the best fishing in the Ten Thousand Islands of the Everglades National Park out of Everglades City & Chokoloskee Florida? The near coastal waters and river areas of the 10000 Islands of the Everglades National Park and are now at summertime highs, ranging between 86 and 88 degrees. Captain Kurt and Captain John have been busy keeping our customers busy reeling in everything from Snook, Trout, Redfish, Sharks, and of course a variety of the typical flats by-catch fish like ladyfish, jacks, cats, and more. Many of the best catches have been on live shrimp, jigs, live bait, and popping corks. Most charters this time of year are 4-6 hour charters so we can get out early in the morning and back in before the typical afternoon storms push through. Captain Kurt, Captain John, and Captain Brandon have been targeting Redfish and Spotted Sea Trout the past couple of weeks with many nice 20"-26" Redfish being caught, 16"-21" Spotted Sea Trout too. Big black drum have been around and Capt Kurt and one of his charters got into a school of 20-26 pounders on light tackle... talk about a "Blast"!   Snook have been cruising the near coastal shore lines with some nice 20"-31" Snook being caught on a few of our charters. Most of our recent fishing has been with soft plastic jigs, buck tail jigs, and shrimp under popping corks.
