Chokoloskee & Everglades Fishing Reports

Fishing Report 12/1/12

12/1/12 Water temperatures have remained about the same the last 2 weeks here in the near coastal waters and river areas of the 10000 Islands of the Everglades National Park. Today the water temperature was right at 68 degrees in the back country areas.Thanksgiving week proved to be a very busy week for us on the water as the whole fleet including Capt Brandon, Capt Kurt, Capt Bob, Capt Gary, and I were out on the water showing some fantastic clients how good the fall fishing can be here in Chokoloskee and Everglades City. The incoming tide proved to be our best friend and the falling tide was a bit challenging. Some big mentions were 5 year old Nathaniel K's perfect tournament sized Redfish measuring 26-7/8" long (just 1/8" from being out of the slot). Alisa caught a fantastic over slot 30" Red that was photographed and released. Norton hooked into a 40+" Snook that took him into the mangroves after some fantastic adrenaline rushing drag screaming. We had one trip that produced 16 Redfish from 20"-26" in a 2 hour span, and Capt Kurt showed a few folks that it is possible to catch 100 trout on one trip. All in all, it's been really good with many Trout and some nice Reds being caught on just about every trip, Snook on most trips, and even some nice Tripletail, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Barracuda, and Flounder on a few trips. We have been using live shrimp under popping corks, gulp shrimp on small jig heads, and live Pilchards. It's my absolute favorite time of year for fishing in the Ten Thousand Islands of the Everglades National Park out of Everglades City & Chokoloskee Florida. Fishing Report 11/10/12

11/10/12 We had another cooling trend with water temperatures falling in the near coastal waters and river areas of the 10000 Islands of the Everglades National Park. Today the water temperature was right at 69 degrees in the back bay areas. This past week we had mornings of falling tides and wind which proved to make us work hard to produce quality fish. Most charters have produced a few slot size Redfish, some Snook, Trout, and WOW have the Ladyfish come in strong. While hunting bait in open water, we came across a migrating school of Bull Redfish. Jerk baits produced some nice Reds up to 19-1/2 lbs. Now that we are getting into rising morning tides, we should see some great fishing this coming week. We have been using live shrimp under popping corks, and also gulp shrimp on small jig heads. Fishing Report 10/25/12

10/25/12 The water temperatures have dropped about 5 degrees in the last 2 weeks in the near coastal waters and river areas of the 10000 Islands of the Everglades National Park. Today the water temperature was right at 80 degrees in most areas that we fished. The morning tide was incoming which is my favorite tide to fish right now. We have been using live shrimp under popping corks, and also gulp shrimp on small jig heads. Our 4 hour morning 1/2 day trip today was productive despite the wind and the changing barometer with Hurricane Sandy cruising up from Jamaica into the Atlantic coast. Ken and June were able to pull a lot of slot size reds to the boat. I do expect the fishing to be poor tomorrow and Friday with predicted 30+mph winds. The weather man says things will straighten up by Sunday and we are looking forward to a beautiful Fall week the last few days of October and into November. Fishing Report 10/08/12

10/8/12 The water temperatures went up a few degrees this past week in the near coastal waters and river areas of the 10000 Islands of the Everglades National Park. It was ranging between 85 and 86 degrees in most areas. The morning tides were moving out the last few days which effected the morning Redfish bite. The afternoon and evening "incoming tide" Redfish bite proved excellent. Most were caught late in the day using live shrimp under popping corks, and also gulp shrimp on small jig heads. This weekend we discovered a cove of large Black Drum that were extremely finicky on what they wanted to eat. Once we pinpointed what they wanted, that cove proved to be dubbed "workout cove" as clients managed to break quite the sweat while battling some big dudes on light tackle. On Saturday, Jeff and his son TJ from Louisiana pulled the largest one to the boat for a quick weigh in, measurement, photo and release. It was 33lbs and 42" long. Jeff mentioned that he never caught a Snook or a Tarpon. Well, after a little thought and a ride up the river, his wish came true after throwing jigs and hooking into a few Juvenile Tarpon and some fast Snook action. It's October 2012 and it's a beautiful time of year for fishing in the Ten Thousand Islands of the Everglades National Park out of Everglades City & Chokoloskee Florida.
