Chokoloskee & Everglades City Fishing Report 3/12/14

The water temperatures here in the near coastal waters and river areas of the 10000 Islands of the Everglades National Park have been ranging this week between 74 and 76 degrees. Our primary targets are currently Speckled Sea Trout on the flats and Redfish on the oyster bars, both on the outside barrier island shorelines and the mangroves in the nearshore river areas. We have had some windy days where the water has been stirred up on the outside which proved to make the Trout fishing challenging, but on the days when the water is clear, the trout bite has been fantastic. Redfish have been on the move between the inside rivers and outside islands so moving around locating them has been the best bet. We have seen some big schools of large Black Drum and a few of our charters have had awesome days catching 30lb drum on light tackle. Sheepshead are still around in decent numbers. Several of our charters were pleasantly surprised to hook up with some huge Tarpon as we fish the flats for Trout. Bonnet head and black tip sharks are hitting near shore and prove to be a lot of fun on light spin tackle.
